Green Biophilic Living

In cities of concrete and steel, we’ve lost our sacred bond with the living world, our ancestors’ wisdom, and the joy of true community. But even in our villages and rural places, the same forgetting is creeping in.

Too often, the dream is to build another
“mini city” clearing forests for concrete
homes, trading local foods for packaged
imports, and replacing our community life
with individualistic, city-minded living. At
GBL, we believe there’s a better way

We are more than a design studio. We are an ecosystem merging nature, culture, building, art, and everyday living. From the food on your table to the walls around you, from the jewelry you wear to the spaces you gather we help you rediscover what it means to live in harmony with nature, with each other, and with yourself.

What We Do
African Biophilic Courses

Biophilia (the science that explains our inborn love for nature & natural systems) is a global science, yet in Africa, it has always been our way of life. Long before the word biophilia existed, our ancestors practiced what is now called biophilic design, building and living in harmony with nature. Our courses bring together these African knowledge and practices, case studies, and modern sustainability science to inspire a new wave of design and living, one that reflects who we are, celebrating our knowledge, heritage, and identity, and reimagining how they can thrive in symbiosis with nature in our buildings, cities, and lives today.

Create spaces that breathe: Your home, your office, your community.

At Green Biophilic Living, we believe that every space has a heartbeat, and when we design with nature, that heartbeat becomes stronger, calmer, and more inspiring. Our interior design philosophy blends modern aesthetics with the restorative power of natural elements, creating environments where people feel grounded, energized, and connected.

Whether it’s your home, your office, or your community space, we design interiors that invite you to breathe deeply, think clearly, and live intentionally.

Why It Matters

Our mental health, our climate, our communities, they all suffer when we forget who we are: nature itself. We are here to help Africans reawaken way of life that nourishes the soul, regenerates the earth, and celebrates our rich cultural roots, while embracing modern solutions where they
serve us.

The First Biophilic Course

Course Student Testimonial

I first heard about the first African Biophilia Course during a forum held by Madam Wangui Mwangi’s, shortly after the first Biophilic Conference in May last year. During that meeting, she informed us, as the GBL team, that a new course was being launched and that it would begin within the team before opening to the public. At the time, I had heard about green spaces and indoor plants in my studies, but I did not fully understand the deeper meaning of biophilia or biophilic design.

Through mentorship and the course modules, my perspective completely changed. I came to realize that biophilic design goes far beyond adding plants to a space, it traces everything back to Mother Nature and reminds us that true design begins from within and extends outward. It is not just about the final outcome of a project, but about purpose, sustainability, regeneration and designing with nature rather than away from it. Just as our ancestors lived in balance with the natural world.

In my final school project, with Biophilic design inspiration, I intentionally used locally available natural materials like hyacinth and papyrus reeds, incorporated recycled elements such as beads and second-hand fabrics, and integrated more plant life into both interior and exterior spaces, all with a deeper understanding of sustainability and holistic well-being. The first African Biophilia Course is more than a course; it is an awakening. It reconnects design to our African roots, reminding us to nurture nature, live harmoniously within it and prioritize our well-being.

Confidently, I recommend this course.
